What duct size and length do I need for a 42" under cabinet range hood?

The Verona needs 8-inch round duct, and the Hurricane takes 8-inch or 10-inch round duct. Victory’s manuals set a 50-foot maximum for 8-inch duct, and every fitting counts against it: 9 feet for a 90-degree elbow, 5 feet for a 45-degree elbow, and 7 feet for a wall or roof cap. Two 90-degree elbows and a wall cap leave 25 feet of straight duct. For a long duct, the Hurricane manual says to increase from 8-inch to 10-inch duct. Use smooth, rigid metal duct, and never shrink the duct along the way, because that cuts airflow.

What is the difference between the Victory Verona and Hurricane 42" under cabinet range hoods?

The main differences are airflow, duct size, and vent direction. Victory rates the Verona at 900 CFM (cubic feet of air per minute) and the Hurricane at 1,000 CFM on 8-inch duct. The Verona vents through the top with 8-inch duct. The Hurricane vents through the top or back and takes 8-inch or 10-inch duct. Both have four-speed mechanical rotary switches, dimmable LED lights, and a 5-year parts warranty. If you can duct from the top, both hoods work. Only the Hurricane offers back exhaust, which Victory reserves for rare cases where height limits block top ducting.

How do I know if a 42" under cabinet range hood will fit my cabinet?

Three measurements settle it: width, depth, and the gap between your cooktop and cabinet bottom. The Verona is 41½ inches wide and 22 inches deep. The Hurricane is 41¾ inches wide and 24 inches deep. Match the gap to the mounting height range in your model’s manual before you order. With top exhaust, both manuals tell you to cut openings in the cabinet bottom. The Verona manual calls for an 8½-inch duct hole and a 1-inch cable hole. The Hurricane manual says to size its openings to fit the duct adapter and power outlet.

Can a 42" under cabinet range hood vent out the back?

Only the Hurricane offers back venting. The Verona vents from the top only. Victory’s manual says rear venting carries an extra charge and must be purchased before the hood ships, because changing from top to back venting on site can be difficult. Victory reserves it for rare cases where height limits make top venting not possible, and says to select it only when the duct opening must sit directly behind the unit. For rear venting, the manual says a 10-inch transition and round duct must be used for best performance.

Do I need two people to install a 42" under cabinet range hood?

Yes, plan on two people. Both Victory manuals recommend two-person installation because of the hood’s size and weight. The Verona manual says two or more people are required to move and install it. Screws are not included with either hood, so buy them before installation day. The Verona manual says to fasten the hood from below with heavy-duty wood screws, galvanized or stainless steel. The Hurricane manual says to screw from inside the hood into the bottom panel of the cabinet.

42" Under Cabinet

Victory’s 42" Under Cabinet range hoods vent outside, and duct size changes how much air they move. The Verona runs 900 CFM (cubic feet of air per minute) on 8-inch duct. The Hurricane runs 1,000 CFM on 8-inch duct, and its manual recommends 10-inch duct for long duct runs. A hood that almost fits is a headache, so measure first. The Verona is 41½ inches wide and 22 inches deep. The Hurricane is 41¾ inches wide and 24 inches deep. Ask for the Hurricane’s optional rear exhaust before it ships. Both have four-speed rotary switches.
