Is a 48" Wall Mount range hood wide enough for a 48-inch range?

No, Victory’s size guide recommends a 54-inch hood over a 48-inch cooktop and lists 48 inches as the minimum. Victory’s 48-inch Twister measures 47.75 inches wide and its 48-inch TwisterMAX measures 47.5 inches wide, which is 0.25 inch and 0.5 inch under 48 inches. The guide pairs a 48-inch hood with a 42-inch cooktop. Over a centered 42-inch range, these hoods overhang 2.75 to 2.875 inches per side, close to the guide’s standard 3 inches. Measure your range width before you order.

How deep does a wall mount range hood need to be above a 48-inch range?

Victory's size chart lists 24 inches as the minimum hood depth for 48-inch cooktops. The 48-inch Victory TwisterMAX is 24 inches deep, which matches the chart's minimum. The 48-inch Victory Twister is 22 inches deep, which is 2 inches under the chart's minimum. Victory's guide adds that professional-style cooktops with deeper grates may need a hood 24 to 27 inches deep. Measure from the back wall to the front edge of your cooktop, then compare that number with the hood's listed depth.

Can I connect a 48-inch wall mount range hood to my existing duct?

Yes, if your existing duct matches the model: Victory’s 48-inch Twister takes round duct 6 or 8 inches in diameter, and the 48-inch TwisterMAX takes round duct 8 or 10 inches in diameter. Victory’s Twister manual lists 6 inches as the minimum duct size, while the TwisterMAX manual lists 8 inches and warns that 6-inch duct weakens suction. Each Victory manual calls for metal duct and says to clean or replace old ductwork if necessary to lower the risk of a grease fire. Measure your duct’s diameter and length, count its elbows, and check its condition before you order.

What ceiling height needs a chimney extension on a 48-inch wall mounted range hood?

Ceilings taller than 9 feet need a chimney extension, which Victory sells for 10 foot and 12 foot ceilings. Victory lists the included chimney duct covers for ceilings from 8 to 9 feet. On a 9 foot ceiling, the Venting Methods diagrams in Victory’s Twister and TwisterMAX manuals note a 30-inch minimum mounting height above the cooktop. Victory’s installation FAQ says a ceiling above 12 feet needs either a lowered ceiling or a custom extension made locally. Measure your floor-to-ceiling height in inches, then choose a mounting height within your hood’s range.

How high above the stove should I install my 48-inch wall mount hood?

Victory’s Twister manual recommends a 24- to 30-inch gap from the stove top to the hood’s bottom edge, and the TwisterMAX manual recommends a 28- to 36-inch gap. Victory’s installation FAQ lists 30 inches from the cooking surface as the standard distance, which falls within each hood’s range. Victory’s TwisterMAX manual warns that a hood mounted too low could cause a fire hazard and heat damage, while one mounted too high is hard to reach and loses performance and efficiency. If your stove’s manual lists its own hood clearance, check that number too.

48" Wall Mount

Victory’s 48" Wall Mount range hoods include the Twister (22 inches deep) and the TwisterMAX (24 inches deep). Victory rates the Twister at up to 750 CFM (airflow in cubic feet per minute) with 8-inch duct and 600 CFM with 6-inch duct. The TwisterMAX has a 1,000 CFM rating with 8-inch duct and also takes 10-inch duct. Included chimney covers fit 8 to 9 foot ceilings, and Victory sells extensions for 10 and 12 foot ceilings. Check your duct size and ceiling height before you choose a wall mounted hood.
