What size range or cooktop fits under a 60 inch wall mount range hood?

A 60 inch wall mount range hood is built for a wide range, rangetop, or cooktop, well beyond a standard 30-inch stove. Getting the size wrong is a common problem: a hood narrower than the cooking surface lets smoke and grease drift past the outer burners instead of being pulled up. As general guidance, choose a hood at least as wide as the cooking surface, though the right fit depends on the specific range, the installation, and any applicable code or manufacturer requirements. The Twister MAX 60's 24-inch depth adds coverage for burners set toward the front. Measure your range's exact width first, then match the hood to it.

How much CFM does a 60 inch range hood need?

CFM needs depend on your range's heat output (measured in BTU, a unit of heat) and your cooking style, more than on the hood's width alone, so there's no single number required for every 60 inch hood. Too little airflow leaves smoke and odors lingering over a hot, high-BTU range, while more CFM than your kitchen needs can bring other considerations, like a larger duct, possible makeup air requirements, and more noise at full speed. The Twister MAX 60 is rated at 1200 CFM through its included 10-inch duct transition. Check your range's BTU rating and how often you cook at high heat to judge whether that output fits your kitchen.

What duct size does a 60 inch wall mount range hood need?

The Twister MAX 60 includes a 10-inch duct transition (the fitting that connects the hood to your ductwork) as standard equipment, needed to reach its full rated 1200 CFM. A narrower duct restricts airflow, so undersized ductwork can mean less airflow and more noise than the rating suggests. Check your existing duct size against the installation manual before you buy.

Does a 1200 CFM range hood require makeup air?

Yes, a 1200 CFM range hood can require makeup air (outside air brought in to replace what the hood exhausts), depending on your local building code and whether your home has a gas or other non-direct-vent fuel-burning appliance. The 2021 International Residential Code sets a 400 CFM threshold for this requirement, and 1200 CFM is well above it, though exact adoption and thresholds vary by state and city. Confirm the exact requirement with your local building department or a qualified HVAC contractor before installation.

Are 60 inch wall mount range hoods loud?

No, not inherently, since loudness depends on the fan speed you're running, not just the hood's maximum CFM rating. Sound is measured in sones (a unit of perceived loudness), and the Twister MAX 60 ranges from 1.2 sones on its lowest speed up to 6.6 sones at maximum, across its 4-speed control. Day-to-day cooking often runs fine on a lower, quieter setting, with the higher output there when you're cooking something heavier or need to clear odors faster.

60" Wall Mounts

A 60 inch wall mount range hood is built for a wide range or cooktop and higher-output cooking, well beyond a standard 30-inch stove. In Victory's 60" Wall Mounts collection, the Twister MAX 60 delivers 1200 CFM (cubic feet of air moved per minute) through its included 10-inch duct transition, since duct size affects real airflow at this output. Made with 19-gauge 304 stainless steel and dishwasher-safe baffle filters, it carries a Lifetime Motor Warranty and 5-year parts coverage.
