What size range hood do I need for a 48-inch range?

A 48-inch range needs a hood at least 48 inches wide, and Victory recommends 54 inches. Victory’s size guide treats 3 inches of hood past each edge of the range, called overhang, as standard. Professional-style gas ranges may need up to 6 inches per side. The 48-inch Victory Verona measures 47.5 inches wide. That leaves no overhang over a 48-inch range and about 2.75 inches per side when centered over a 42-inch range. Measure the cabinet width above your range first, because Victory’s guide notes that existing cabinets limit under cabinet hoods.

Does a 48" Under Cabinet hood fit my cabinets?

Yes, a 48-inch under cabinet hood fits if your cabinet bottom sits above the cooktop by the hood’s mounting height plus the hood’s own height. The Victory Verona manual sets that mounting height at 24 to 30 inches from the cooktop to the bottom of the hood. The Victory Verona manual also tells you to cut an 8.5-inch duct hole and a 1-inch power cable hole in the cabinet bottom. The Victory Verona is 22 inches deep. Victory’s size guide says depth decides whether a hood covers your front burners, so measure from the wall to your front burners.

Can I use my existing 6-inch duct with a 48-inch under cabinet range hood?

No, a 6-inch duct is smaller than the 8-inch round minimum in the Victory Verona and Victory Venice manuals. The Victory Verona is built for 8-inch round duct, and its manual says 6-inch or 7-inch duct lowers suction and creates extra noise and vibration. Its manual also calls for a round 8-inch roof or wall vent cap and rules out 4-inch and 6-inch caps. The Victory Venice includes 8-inch and 10-inch connectors, and its manual lists 1000 CFM with 8-inch duct and 1200 CFM with 10-inch duct. Measure your existing duct and outside cap first.

Does a 48-inch under cabinet range hood need makeup air?

Yes, because the Victory Verona and Victory Venice exceed the 400 CFM threshold in IRC M1503.6, they need makeup air if an appliance that burns fuel inside the home’s air barrier is neither direct-vent nor mechanically drafted. Victory’s guide says a standard gas water heater or furnace typically triggers it. Makeup air is outside air that replaces what the hood exhausts. Some local codes add requirements, including for homes without fuel-burning appliances. The guide adds that tightly sealed homes often benefit from makeup air even without a requirement. Your local building department decides which rules apply at your address.

Is a 900 CFM under cabinet hood enough for a 48-inch gas range?

Yes, the Victory Verona’s 900 CFM rating on 8-inch duct is enough for a gas range up to 80,000 BTU, going by Victory’s CFM guide. The guide says to add your burners’ BTU (British thermal units, a measure of heat) and divide by 100 to get your minimum CFM. It also says to add 100 CFM or more for bends and long duct runs. By the same math, the Victory Venice manual’s ratings cover up to 90,000 BTU at 1000 CFM (8-inch duct) and up to 110,000 BTU at 1200 CFM (10-inch duct). Check your range’s BTU rating first.

48" Under Cabinet

Victory 48" Under Cabinet range hoods mount beneath the cabinets above your cooktop and vent through a duct. Four numbers matter most: width, depth, duct size, and airflow. The Victory Verona is 47.5 inches wide, 22 inches deep, and rated 900 CFM (cubic feet of air per minute) on 8-inch duct. The Victory Venice is rated 1200 CFM on 10-inch duct and 1000 CFM on 8-inch duct. Measure your duct first, then choose the 48-inch range hood rated for that duct size.
