Yes, a Victory Twister or TwisterMAX with an internal blower can vent through the roof or an exterior wall, as long as the duct ends outdoors and never in an attic, crawl space, or garage. Victory’s TwisterMAX manual recommends venting vertically through the roof. A wall exit needs a 90-degree elbow, which shortens the longest duct run each manual allows. Use a cap of at least 6 inches on the Twister and at least 8 inches on the TwisterMAX, and skip 4-inch laundry-type wall caps. The manuals ask for a short duct with few elbows, so plan your exit route before you order.

Should I choose an internal or a remote blower on a 42-inch wall mount hood?

Choose an internal blower if you want the blower in the hood, as on the Victory Twister and TwisterMAX, or the TwisterMAX remote blower model if you want the blower on an exterior wall or inline in the duct. On 8-inch duct, Victory lists up to 1,000 CFM for the TwisterMAX with either blower and up to 750 for the Twister. How many CFM do I need for a gas range with a 42-inch wall mount hood?

Your minimum CFM is the total BTU of your gas range’s burners, the heat they produce per hour, divided by 100. Victory lists the 750 CFM Twister on 8-inch duct for gas ranges of 75,000 BTU or less. The same math puts the 1,000 CFM TwisterMAX on 8-inch duct at 100,000 BTU or less. Elbows and long duct runs cost airflow, so allow 100 CFM or more, which lowers each limit by 10,000 BTU or more. Choose more CFM if you sear or wok cook often.

Can a 42-inch wall mount hood vent out the back instead of the top?

Yes, Victory’s Twister and standard TwisterMAX, the two hoods with the blower inside, offer a back or rear exhaust option that puts the duct opening directly behind the hood. The duct can then run straight out through the wall instead of turning at an elbow. Choose it if a low ceiling or too little room above the hood rules out the standard top exhaust. Select the Request Rear Exhaust box on the product page when you order, because switching later means rotating the blower, which can be difficult. On the Twister, Victory’s manual recommends 8-inch duct for a rear vent.

Where do I put the outlet for my 42-inch wall mount hood?

For the Victory Twister or standard TwisterMAX, put a 120-volt outlet inside the chimney wall, where the hood’s plug can reach it, and give it its own 15-amp circuit. The outlet’s height depends on how high you mount the hood above the cooktop. The Twister manual gives 76 to 82 inches from the floor for 24- to 30-inch mounts, and the TwisterMAX manual gives 85 to 93 inches for 28- to 36-inch mounts. Victory lists the cord at 2 to 4 feet, and the Twister manual rules out extension cords. If the cord falls short, a qualified electrician should install a nearer outlet.

Victory’s 42" Wall Mount range hoods vent outdoors through a duct, in three versions: the Twister, the TwisterMAX, and the TwisterMAX with a remote blower. Your duct size changes how much air the same hood can move, measured in CFM (cubic feet per minute). The Twister reaches up to 600 CFM on 6-inch duct and 750 on 8-inch. The TwisterMAX reaches up to 1,000 on 8-inch and tops 1,100 on 10-inch. The TwisterMAX remote version puts the blower inline in your duct or on an outside wall. All three are cETLus certified.
