What size cooktop or range works with a 48-inch island range hood?

For a 42-inch cooktop or range, Victory recommends a 48-inch island range hood. According to Victory’s size guide, an island hood should be one standard size larger than the cooktop, about 3 inches more on each side. Island hoods run wider because an island has no wall to guide rising smoke and faces drafts from the whole room. For a 48-inch cooktop, Victory’s size chart lists a 48-inch minimum hood width and a 54-inch recommended width. Ask Victory to confirm your hood size before you order.

Does a 48-inch island range hood need ceiling support and a qualified installer?

Yes, Victory’s manual says a 48-inch island range hood needs a stable, secure ceiling support system or framework and a qualified installer. The manual ties the support requirement to the hood’s size and weight and tells owners not to install the hood themselves. If a joist or beam sits directly above the island, Victory’s island guide calls for a professional framing check. Have a qualified installer check your ceiling framing before you order.

What size duct does a 48-inch island range hood need?

A 48-inch island range hood takes 8-inch round duct as standard and accepts 10-inch round duct as an option. Victory’s manual says the duct must be 8 inches or larger, because a 4, 5, or 6-inch duct reduces suction and adds noise and vibration. With either duct size, the manual allows up to 50 feet of completely straight duct. Each 90-degree elbow deducts 9 feet from that limit, each 45-degree elbow deducts 5 feet, and a wall or roof cap deducts 7 feet. Add up your planned duct run, elbows, and cap before you order.

What ceiling height does a 48-inch island range hood fit?

Victory’s dimensions drawing shows two chimney options for a 48-inch island range hood: one for 8-foot ceilings and one for 9-foot ceilings. Victory’s manual lists no figures for ceilings below 8 feet or above 9 feet. The manual also notes that ceiling height can affect whether the recommended mounting height applies. Before you order, ask Victory which chimney option fits your ceiling, especially if your ceiling is shorter than 8 feet or taller than 9 feet.

How high above the cooktop should a 48-inch island range hood hang?

Victory’s manual recommends 28 to 36 inches between the cooktop and the bottom of a 48-inch island range hood. The manual says to mount the hood no lower than 28 inches, because a hood that hangs too low can cause heat damage and a fire hazard. The manual also says to check the cooktop manufacturer’s height clearance requirements, if available. Before you order, measure your cooktop height and ceiling height, then ask Victory whether the hood can reach 28 to 36 inches in your kitchen.

48" Island Mount

A Victory 48" Island Mount range hood hangs from the ceiling above an island cooktop in a home kitchen. Victory recommends an island hood one size larger than the cooktop, so a 48-inch island range hood pairs with a 42-inch cooktop. For a 48-inch cooktop or range, ask Victory which hood fits. For ceiling height, mounting height, duct route, and ceiling support, ask a qualified installer. Check sizing before you buy.
